GDP
Indicator description
Gross domestic product is the sum of gross value added produced by industries or sectors, valued at basic prices, and of the balance of taxes and subsidies on products, which cannot be divided by industry or sector, less financial intermediation services not divided by industry or sector. GDP volume change compared to the same period of the previous year is presented based on unadjusted data.

Adjusted population
Indicator description
The full-scope censuses conducted every ten years show a comprehensive picture of the number and composition of the population. For determining the annual population number in the period between two censuses, the starting point is the population number of the last census (currently the census with the reference date of 1 October 2022), and from this, the population was estimated by using natural increase or decrease data available from the statistics of vital events until 2000. From 2001 international migration is also taken into account.

Unemployment rate
Indicator description
The ratio of unemployed persons to the economically active population of corresponding age. The indicator can be calculated for different age groups, the default is the age group 15–74. Further selected age groups: 15–24, 25–54, 55–74.

Industrial production
Indicator description
We measure changes of industrial production by variations of industrial production values, however the impact of price change is filtered out. We calculate the volume index of production based on comparative prices data of the industrial production value (presented at reference period price levels).

Housing prices, housing price index, Q4 2024
The domestic housing market continued to expand in the fourth quarter of 2024, with the number of sales 22% higher than in the same period of the previous year. After a strong increase in Q1, housing prices continued to rise at a more moderate pace. In Q4, the price of dwellings rose by 1.6% compared to the previous quarter. Over a year, prices rose by 13% in nominal terms and by 8.9% in real terms, the latter by 8.7% for second-hand dwellings and 10% for new dwellings.

Day of National Unity, 4 June 2025
The Hungarian National Assembly declared in 2010 the anniversary of the Treaty of Trianon, 4 June 2020, the Day of Hungarian National Unity. Commemorations, wreath-laying ceremonies, literary events, historical lectures are organized year after year in numerous cities on the occasion. Many schools organize extraordinary history classes, competitions.

Snapshots, 2024 – Vital events
In Hungary, fewer children were born in 2024 than a year earlier. The number of deaths also declined, but to a lesser extent than the number of births, so the rate of natural decrease accelerated. A lower surplus of international migration than in the previous year slightly reduced the population decrease, and the country's population fell by 45 thousand people. The number of marriages fell short of the previous year, while the number of divorces slightly exceeded it.

Snapshots, 2024 – Education
In Hungary, 59 thousand children were enrolled in daytime care facilities for young children in 2024, almost 22% of the relevant age group (0-2 year olds). In the 2024/2025 school year, 1 million 689 thousand children and young people participate in full-time education at various levels of initial education, vocational training and tertiary education. Compared to the previous school year, the number of children in kindergartens and students in secondary and tertiary education has increased, while that of primary school students has decreased. In total, nearly 231 thousand people receive part-time education.

The tables and charts in the latest edition of the Statistical Pocketbook of Hungary provide a comprehensive insight into the development of social and economic trends in Hungary during the year 2024. It aims to provide a summary picture of the country's situation in all possible areas based on preliminary indicators. Within the number of employees, this year's pocketbook also includes employed persons working less than 60 hours, and the gross revenues at tourist accommodation establishments.

Snapshots, 2024 – Investment
The volume of national investments lagged behind year-on-year by 14% in 2024. Construction investments lessened by 15%, those in machinery and equipment by 13%. The manufacturing, real estate activities as well as the transportation and storage sections contributed by 4.7, 2.7 and 2.5 percentage points to the volume decrease of the national economy’s investments. At the same time administration toned the setback down by 1.4 percentage points, the energy industry by 0.4 percentage points.

Hungarians in space
Humanity wishes for a long time to reach the stars and space exploration gains nowadays an ever-increasing role in research and development. Hungary spent 19.4 billion HUF between 2021-2023 for this purpose, 16% more than in the 2010-2020 period. Bertalan Farkas was, 45 years ago, on 26 May 1980, the first Hungarian astronaut in the cosmos, the Hungarian nation becoming as such the seventh to reach the space. Tibor Kapu, the next Hungarian, starts his space mission on 8 June 2025.26/05/2025
